Still miss Nellie and her great love and outreach.

In our early years at Alfred Street, we met Sister Quander in the Sunday School. Immediately, her warm Christian countenance was revealed. Often, we reflect on her opening the door as a Church Greeter when we entered for an early Sunday morning worship service a few years ago.

It is a blessing for a saint to be know as an Encourager, and Sister Quander was that. Be strengthened in the Word and the promise of Christ to reunite you with her in in the Rapture.

When I started both the Colleague Teacher program and the Great Beginnings program in Fairfax County Public Schools, Nellie was a trusted friend and colleague who was there with professional advice and a caring heart. She was always a cheerleader for teachers and kids. She worried that time could be thrown out the window' in classes if teachers weren't well prepared and supported. She had high expectations for every child and was tireless in supporting education. Above all, she was a marvelous person and a great storyteller. She was unique and will be missed.

Nellie was my principal at Hybla Valley through the 4th grade. Her example as an educator and in working with children influences me to this day. I have long been honored to claim her as a key influence in my life.

I was blessed to "meet" Nellie's family when I was in the 4th grade and I was in a group of students selected to perform in honor of the end of Nellie's term. I know the entire family surprised Nellie

To the Quander Family in the Passing of Nellie Quander, May the depths of God's abiding love continue to bless, guide, comfort and sustain all of you during this difficult "hour" of her recent passing. She was one whom I deeply appreciated, each time we had occasion to share, whether from her sitting room chair, in graceful conversing in her house, to a "brief moment" in passing by after church. Truly, a gifted and loved one who taught so many so well! In Christ Jesus,

I did not know Nellie well. We met several times at education meetings when she was chair of the Virginia board of education. But I was always struck by her wisdom, her strength, and her gracious manner. She was a powerful force on behalf of the children of Virginia. I am sure her family will miss her greatly. My deepest condolences.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Nellie Quander. She was a dear, beloved and respected member of Delta Kappa Gamma, who was a trail blazer for the rest of us who followed her. During my first days in the FCPS system, I became aware of this larger than life, powerful woman to whom we all looked to for guidance. She was a role mode, advocate and encourager for all of us in the field of education. Her life made
